Waverly Avenue [11-2-17]
In the early morning hours of Thursday, November 2nd, 2017 the East Rockaway Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire on Waverly Avenue. Responding fire department units were advised that multiple calls were being received reporting the fire and when firefighters arrived on scene they were met with heavy fire showing from number seventy-six – a two story private dwelling. A signal ten [working fire] was transmitted and mutual aids notified. Firefighters began knocking down the fire and making a push into the home; however, after a few minutes they were unable to advance further due to a heavy fire load and cluttered conditions inside the home. Multiple hand lines were put into operation to fight the fire and a master stream was briefly used as well. All occupants made it safely out of the home prior to the fire department’s arrival; however, two of them were treated for smoke inhalation according to Nassau County Police.
