Western Boulevard [7-19-11]
At 04:40 hours on July 19th, the Baldwin Fire Department was dispatched to what turned out to be their second signal ten [working fire] in three days. This time the location was 3120 Western Boulevard, with the cross streets of McKinley and Washington. County Police from the First Precinct were amongst the first to arrive and confirmed that they had a working fire and that they were working to evacuate the occupants of the home. Baldwin's Hose 2 [Engine 202 out of the "South House"] pulled first due and wrapped the hydrant at Western and Washington. Hose One [201] was the second engine company to arrive and picked up the hydrant that was left for them. Ladder 206 was the first truck on scene and took position in front of the house. They immediately put up their aerial device and sent their manpower up to begin "opening up." Mutual aid brought Freeport Truck 218 to the scene as the FAST team as well as a South Hempstead bus and Ladder 244 from Oceanside. Freeport Engine 216 was sent to Baldwin Headquarters to standby. All units were under the command of Baldwin Chief of Department Kevin Smith.
