Grand Avenue [4-12-15]
In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 12th, 2015 the Baldwin Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with overturn, fire, and possible entrapment at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Kings Parkway. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with a fully involved automobile overturned into the side of a building located at 1577 Grand Avenue. The fire began to spread to the building and went on to consume contents within the one story commercial building. The extension of the fire and circumstances surrounding the accident prompted Baldwin Command to transmit a signal ten [working fire]. With the working fire transmitted Hempstead was notified for the FAST and responded with Ladder 2. Freeport Truck Company was among the units standing by during the operation. There was one person in the vehicle at the time of impact who did not survive despite the best efforts of first responders. Firefighters extinguished the fire and checked for extension before placing the scene in the hands of Nassau County Police for their investigation. All fire department units were under the command of Baldwin Chief of Department Karen Bendel [205].
