Mattison Street [3-23-17]
Late on the night of Thursday, March 23rd, 2017 the Baldwin Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire with the additional of smoke in the house at 1524 Mattison Street between Schuman Place and Barth Drive. As fire department units began responding to the scene they were advised that Nassau County Police were on scene reporting a working fire. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with smoke showing from a one and a half story private dwelling. Not long after the arrival of the first fire units on scene came the transmission of a signal ten [working fire]. Minutes after the working fire was given Baldwin First Deputy Chief Michael Esposito [2051] requested that the fire be upgraded to a second alarm. Baldwin Engine 203 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and went on to put at least three hand lines into operation. Baldwin Ladder 207 was the first truck company to arrive on the scene and took to the front of the fire building. Within thirty minutes the main body of fire was knocked down and the overhaul process began. Among the departments mutual aided were Hempstead, Freeport, South Hempstead, Rockville Centre, and Roosevelt. At least one civilian was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Baldwin First Deputy Chief Michael Esposito [2051].
