Brooklyn and Spruce [5-23-12]
On the evening of May 23rd, the Baldwin Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment at the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and Grove Street. Upon arrival, the first Chief on scene advised dispatch that the corrected location was Brooklyn Avenue and Spruce Street. Incoming units were met with a two vehicle accident, with one of the cars having been hit on the driver’s door and requesting removal. Members of Baldwin First Aid Company 208 put the Hurst tool into place to free the driver and were assisted by members of Baldwin Truck Company. While the patient was being extricated, medics were inside the vehicle stabilizing the accident victim and keeping him alert. After the door was cut away, the patient was removed from the Camry and loaded onto a stretcher. The single aided, a sixty year old male, was transported via Baldwin Fire Department ambulance to South Nassau Communities Hospital with unknown injuries. His female passenger and the other driver were not injured. All fire department units were under the command of Chief of Department Schwenker. After fire department units took up the scene was left in the hands of First Precinct officers.
