Edna Court [11-28-11]
Just before 3 p.m. on November 28th, the Baldwin Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 25 Edna Court [between Grand Avenue and Haig Street]. First arriving units were met with a Queen Anne style home with heavy fire showing from the rear of the home. Baldwin Engine 201 was the first engine on scene, and laid in from a hydrant further east on Edna. Baldwin Ladder 206 was the first Truck Company on scene and immediately set up in front of the home. As operations were being set up, so was the mutual aid. Freeport Truck was called to the scene within the first few minutes as the FAST team, and soon found themselves going to work. Freeport sent both Tiller 218 and Rescue 217-2 to the scene, and these apparatus positioned themselves [along with Oceanside Engine 248] behind the home on School Street. Also on the fire scene was Hempstead Truck One and Oceanside Truck 2442 amongst others. At least four lines were put into place and two aerial ladders set up [one in the front and one in the rear of the home]. Merrick had one of the many ambulances on scene, and at least one firefighter was treated on scene for an unknown type injury. The fire was only a couple of blocks away from Baldwin Fire Headquarters where other units were standing by. The standby units included North Merrick and Roosevelt Truck Company, a Roosevelt Engine, and at least one ambulance. The incident was under the command of Baldwin Chief Kevin Smith.
