Sunrise and Central [8-1-12]
The Baldwin Fire Department didn’t have to wait long for their first motor vehicle accident in the month of August. On the afternoon of August 1st, the Baldwin FD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Central Avenue. A First Precinct officer [RMP 116] who was one of the first on scene advised that a door would have to be popped in order to access occupants. Baldwin Engines 201 and 203, Ladder 206, and Ambulance 2010 responded to the scene. Members of 206 put the tool into operation to remove the door of the involved Chrysler sedan. Because there were multiple aided on the scene, mutual aid was requested from the South Hempstead Fire Department. South Hempstead sent Ambulance 743 to the scene and transported the Chrysler’s front seat passenger. The passenger, a fifty year old male, could not recall how the accident occurred and a trauma team requested upon his arrival at South Nassau. The driver of the sedan was transported to South Nassau in Baldwin Ambulance, and the other involved driver transported in County Ambulance 2361. The accident was first called in by a passing Central Islip Chief and units on scene were under the command of a Lieutenant from Engine 203.
