Bellmore Avenue [7-27-13]
Just after 07:00 hours on the morning of July 27th the Bellmore Fire Department was alerted to a reported building fire at 2562 Bellmore Avenue [cross of Public Highway and address revised to 2565 during the operation]. The first units to arrive on scene were met with smoke showing and the signal ninety eight [smoke showing] was transmitted. Not long after the transmission of the ninety eight came the signal ten [working fire] and with it various mutual aid units. Among the units on scene was North Bellmore Ladder 657 [the original FAST that was then put to work], Wantagh Ladder 6911 [became the new FAST], Wantagh Engine 698, and North Merrick Ambulance 679A. Standing by for Bellmore during the operation was North Bellmore Engine 654 and Merrick Ambulance 6414.
Bellmore Engine 602 [operating with spare Engine 604] was the first due engine on scene and stretched three lines [at least two in operation]. Bellmore Ladder 606 was the first truck company on the scene and took to the number four side of the building. Within forty minutes firefighters had the fire under control. It was stated that the establishment had opened within the last month following extensive repairs after Hurricane Sandy last October. The cause of the fire remained under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Bellmore First Assistant Chief Steve Marsar [600-01].
