Croydon Drive [3-20-19]
Late on the night of Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 the Bellmore Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire on Croydon Drive off Camp Avenue. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with fire showing on the first floor of an unoccupied two-story private dwelling undergoing construction. A signal ten [working fire] was transmitted and mutual aid notified. North Bellmore was designated the FAST for the operation and responded to the scene with Ladder 657. Wantagh and North Merrick were among the other deaprtments called for mutual aid. Bellmore Engine 604 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and had two hand lines stretched with one line put into operation. The main body of fire was quickly knocked down and there was no extension to the floor above. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Bellmore Chief of Deaprmtent Schmalenberger [600-00].
