Florin Court [8-31-12]
At 12:29 hours on the afternoon of August 31st, the Bellmore Fire Department was dispatched to an unknown type fire at 2842 Florin Court, just off of Hewlett Lane. The call was placed by the neighbor across from 2482 who noticed smoke coming from the home. A Seventh Precinct officer who was one of the first on scene reported smoke in the area. The next report given by the police to the fire department was that they had a deck fire at 2842 Florin Court. It was stated that none of the home’s occupants [except for a dog] were present when the fire started and so entry needed to be forced to enter the home.
Bellmore Engine 603 and Tower Ladder 606 were the first engine and truck companies on scene. Moments after arriving on scene, a signal ninety-eight [smoke showing] was transmitted. This ninety-eight was soon followed by 606’s transmission of a signal ten [working fire]. North Bellmore and Wantagh both responded to the scene with additional ladders [657 and 6911 respectively]. Standby in headquarters was provided by Levittown Ladder 621, a Merrick Engine, and a North Merrick Ambulance. The fire was contained primarily to the rear deck area with slight extension to the home. Two lines were stretched, with one put into operation. All fire department units were under the command of Bellmore’s Second Assistant Chief Steve Marsar [600-02]. The dog that was home at the time of the fire was pulled from the home safely and given food and water outside the home. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
