Judith Drive [7-3-16]
Late on the night of Sunday, July 3rd, 2016 the Bellmore Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a garage fire at 3021 Judith Drive off of Ellen Road. As units got on the road and were responding they were advised that multiple calls were being received reporting the fire and upon arrival were met with a heavily involved two story private dwelling. A signal ten [working fire] was immediately transmitted and the request for mutual aid was put into place. Bellmore Engine 601 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and wasted no time in getting hand lines into place. Firefighters started by knocking down fire on the number one side of the home and then made their way inside where they encountered a large volume of fire throughout. Firefighters spent several minutes darkening down what they could; however, for a brief time firefighters were pulled from the home so areas could be hit from outside and inside teams could regroup. In just over one hour the scene was placed under control. Various departments from within the sixth battalion were either called to the scene or to standby for Bellmore. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Bellmore Chief of Department Montera [600-00].
