South Oyster Bay Road [8-16-15]
Shortly before eight a.m. on the morning of Sunday, August 16th, 2015 the Bethpage and Hicksville Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a plane crash at 1000 South Oyster Bay Road – on the border of the two town’s fire districts. When fire department units arrived on scene they were met with a well involved single engine aircraft that had crash landed on the LIRR train tracks. Firefighters immediately extinguished the fire and transported the surviving victim of the crash. The other person in the plane, the pilot, did not survive the crash. Aside from the fire department Nassau County and MTA Police were on scene along with the FAA, OEM, and NTSB. It was later stated that engine trouble caused the pilot to request permission to land at Republic Airport in Farmingdale; however, the plane did not reach. The plane was originally headed to Morristown, New Jersey.
