Pinetop Drive [3-18-14]
Just after 14:00 hours on March 18th the Central Islip Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 5 Pinetop Drive off of Applegate Drive. Those first to arrive on scene were met with a fully involved two story private dwelling leading to the immediate transmission of the working fire [13/35]. With these conditions present Brentwood was notified to respond as the FAST, Hauppauge for an engine to the scene, and Islip Terrace to standby. Among the challenges firefighters faced were downed live wires and so LIPA was notified.
At least two lines were stretched and went into operation to fight the afternoon fire. Within thirty minutes the main body of fire was knocked down and the overhaul process began. Due to the significant body of fire Brentwood’s FAST was put to work and Islip Terrace was redirected to the scene. Also called to the scene and to standby were mutual aid units from East Brentwood and Brentwood Legion Ambulance. The cause of the fire remained under investigation and two firefighters were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with minor burns. All fire department units were under the command of Central Islip Chief of Department Kevin J. McAteer Jr. [3-7-30].
