Sunday, May 26th, 2013: The East Farmingdale Fire Department responded to the intersection of Route 109 and Albany Avenue for a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival units were met with a single vehicle accident with a downed telephone pole and burning wires near the auto. Despite the hazards posed by the downed pole and wires firefighters moved in and removed the elderly female from her auto. The driver, the lone occupant of the auto, was transported to Nassau County Medical Center in cardiac arrest by East Farmingdale Fire Department ambulance 1-5-29. Due to the severity of the accident aviation was notified but not utilized due to weather conditions. Despite the best efforts of first responders the accident victim later died at the hospital. It was learned she was coming from work at a nearby nursing facility. The scene was held by Suffolk Police and fire department units were under the command of First Assistant Chief Joe Wisz.
