Route 109 [1-26-20]

On the afternoon of Sunday, January 26th, 2020 East Farmingdale firefighters along with mutual aid units operated on the scene of a working fire in a one-story commercial building on Route 109. The building housed two businesses which were listed as a kitchen and bath cabinet maker as well as a lighting diffuser company. Firefighters encountered heavy fire throughout the building and despite attempting to make a push were forced to go exterior when the roof became compromised. Multiple ladder trucks, hand lines, and portable deck guns were positioned around the building which collapsed in many places – in some instances onto parked vehicles. The operation continued well into the night and required a Town of Babylon excavator to the scene to tear down the remaining structure so that firefighters could access smaller pockets of fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
