Chestnut Avenue [9-23-15]
Around 09:30 hours on the morning of Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 the East Meadow Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke from the house at 355 Chestnut Avenue off of Prospect Avenue. When units arrived on scene they were met with smoke showing from a private dwelling and found a kitchen fire in the three, four corner of the home. It was at this time the signal ten [working fire] was transmitted. Firefighter’s efforts were hindered by a heavy fire load and collier’s mansion conditions forcing them to utilize an exterior attack. Mutual aid was provided by North Merrick, Levittown, Wantagh, and North Bellmore among others. East Meadow Engine 612 and Ladder 617 were the first engine and truck companies to arrive on scene. The cause of the fire remained under investigation. All fire department units were under the command of East Meadow Chief of Department Jim Kane [6100].
