East Meadow Engine 611 Dedication [3-31-19]
On the afternoon of Sunday, March 31st, 2019 Engine Company No. 1 of the East Meadow Fire Department held a dedication ceremony for their 2018 Pierce Velocity Pumper. The ceremony was held at East Meadow Station One where the rig is housed. Among those who spoke were: Ex-Chief and current Company Captain Jim Kane, Commissioner Scott Farber, Chief of Department Phil Fertitta, John Priest, and lastly a blessing from one of the department’s chaplains. Ex-Chief Andy Butera, a Company One member with over 65 years of service, broke a champagne bottle underneath the front bumper to help christen the rig. The new rig, which replaces, it’s 1995 predecessor, features a 700-gallon water tank and 35-gallon foam tank among many other features. Engine 611 is based out of East Meadow Station 1 located at 346 East Meadow Avenue. The best of luck to the officers and members with their new rig!
