Merrick Avenue [12-15-17]
At approximately 01:45 hours on the morning of Friday, December 16th, 2017 the East Meadow Fire Department was dispatched to a home on Merrick Avenue for a basement occupant who smelled smoke and an automatic alarm that was received. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with fire showing at the one, four corner of the home with a significant smoke condition. A signal ninety-eight [smoke showing] was transmitted and after investigating firefighters encountered fire on the second floor of the home leading to the transmission of a signal ten [working fire]. North Bellmore was notified for the FAST and responded with Ladder 6544. Levittown was notified for an additional truck company to the scene and responded with Ladder 621. East Meadow Engine 611 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and had at least two hand lines stretched and operating. Additional mutual aid was provided by Bellmore and North Merrick. All occupants made it safely out of the home and the cause of the fire is under investigation. All fire department units were under the command of East Meadow Chief of Department Joseph Lennon [6100].
