Stratford Drive [4-27-15]
On the morning of April 27th, 2015 the East Meadow Fire Department operated at 843 Stratford Drive [off of Bellmore Avenue] for an oil burner fire in the basement of a two story private dwelling. Upon the arrival of fire department units a signal 98 [smoke showing] was transmitted. Two lines were stretched to fight the fire and a FAST was requested to the scene [with East Meadow Command erring on the side of caution]. With North Merrick designated as the FAST and on the way they were notified that they would be going to work upon their arrival. North Bellmore was reassigned as the FAST. Units operating inside the home discovered that the fire had made its way out of the basement and was rapidly advancing above them. At this time a signal ten [working fire] was transmitted by East Meadow Chief of Department Jim Kane [6100]. The next order to all members was to back out of the home [signal 41] and perform an exterior attack while ensuring all members were accounted for. Additional engines responded to the scene from Merrick and Uniondale with East Meadow Engine 612 the first on scene. All fire department units were under the command of East Meadow Chief of Department Jim Kane [6100].
