Engine 406 / Ambulance 408 Dedication [4-1-12]
Just after midday on April 1st, the officers and members of Liberty Hose Company No. 2 as well as the Chiefs of the East Rockaway Fire Department held a ceremony to dedicate their newly acquired apparatus. The new apparatus, Engine 406 and Ambulance 408, arrived at their new homes within the last few months after continuous months of planning and designing by the truck committees. The wetdown ceremony was held at Liberty’s quarters on Clark Street, between Wilson Street and Garfield Place. The apparatus was blessed and spoken upon by East Rockaway’s Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Chief of the Fire Department.
East Rockaway Engine 406 is a 2012 Pierce Arrow XT PUC powered by a 450 horsepower Cummins engine. The tanks are comprised of a 550 gallon poly tank and a 20 gallon foam cell. Features on the engine include: electronic stability control, Pierce TAK-4 Independent Suspension, and a Pierce PUC 1500 GPM Single Stage Pump. The entire rig is just over nine feet high and thirty feet long and specifications had to be exact due to the confines of the Liberty firehouse.
