Main Street [3-17-12]
On the morning of March 17th, the East Rockaway Fire Department responded to the intersection of Main Street and Waldo Avenue for a car into a building. Upon arrival, first on scene fire units and Fourth Precinct officers were met with a Honda Civic that had crashed into a hair salon and left behind three damaged vehicles in the parking lot. Members of East Rockaway Truck Company along with Nassau County’s Emergency Services Unit worked to shore up the building and secure the structure which suffered a great deal of damage in the accident. Other firefighters secured the additional vehicles involved, while medics tended to the one aided. Only the vehicle which had struck the building was occupied at the time of the accident. The other vehicles were parked at the time and their occupants inside various stores. Police had the parked vehicles removed from in front of the building to facilitate the work firefighters had to do. Fortunately, no one inside the salon or any other store was injured during the Saturday morning accident. Units on scene included East Rockaway Ladder 403, [Heavy] Rescue 407, Engine 404, as well as the presence of one East Rock ambulance.
