Downing Road [5-10-20]
The Elmont Fire Department was called to a basement fire at a home on Downing Road off Donald Place [in the North Valley Stream section of their district] on the night of Sunday, May 10th, 2020. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with a confirmed fire in the basement of a one-story private dwelling. A signal ten [working fire] was transmitted and mutual aid notified. Malverne was designated the FAST and responded to the scene with Ladder 434. Valley Stream was requested for one and one to the scene [Engine 342 and Ladder 345 responded]. Elmont Engine 703 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and had at least two hand lines into operation. During the operation, the fire extended from the basement to the first floor; however, all fire was quickly knocked down. All occupants made it safely out of the home and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The scene was placed under control within thirty minutes. Standby units handled a motor vehicle accident with overturn [negative entrapment] while the fire was taking place.
