Firefighter Tolley Park Dedication [5-29-21]
On the afternoon of Saturday, May 29th, 2021, a park dedication ceremony was held at Crestline Park in Bethpage in honor of FDNY Firefighter William N. Tolley. Firefighter Tolley died in the line of duty due to injuries sustained while operating at a second alarm fire in Queens on April 20th, 2017, leaving behind his wife and daughter as well as several family members, friends, and coworkers. Aside from being a New York City Firefighter Tolley previously served with the Hicksville Fire Department and at the time of his death was a member of the Bethpage Fire Department. At the Saturday afternoon ceremony, the park was officially renamed and dedicated after Tolley. A fire engine for children to play on and bearing Billy’s name was recently added to the playground and completed in time for the ceremony. The addition of this fire engine was made possible by the Fire and Drums Foundation – an organization started by Robert Tolley [Billy’s brother] to help the families of first responders and military members.
