Potter Street [5-15-20]
The Farmingdale Fire Department along with mutual aid companies operated on the scene of a multiple alarm building fire on the evening and into the night of Friday, May 15th, 2020. The incident was located on Potter Street in the dead end off Fulton Street [Route 109]. Those first to arrive on scene were met with heavy fire showing from the building which appeared to be commercial on the first floor with apartments above. Firefighters attempted an interior attack; however, minutes into the operation there was at least one explosion from within the building. This condition along with the weakened structure forced firefighters to utilize a defensive attack. Several tower ladders were set up around the building to help bring the fire under control. Among the departments called for mutual aid was East Farmingdale, Bethpage, Syosset, Massapequa, North Massapequa, Hicksville and Jericho. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
