William St George [6-30-12]
The 2012 William St George Drill, held at the Weir Street Arch in Hempstead, was sponsored by the Baldwin Tomcat Racing Team and Baldwin Hose Co. 3. The drill, the fifth annual, was open to drill teams from Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The drill is aimed at the teams toward the bottom of the County points, but is still a great time for all those involved.
“All funds from this drill go to the William St. George Memorial Fund. This fund offers Scholarships to any drill team member going to college with a minimum of 1 year competing with his team. Scholarships are also offered to college students who have a parent competing on a drill team at least 1 season.”
The motorized drill had nineteen teams on hand for the event. The events for the day consisted of three man ladder, B and C Ladder, B and C Hose, Efficiency, Motor Pump, and Buckets. Trophies were awarded for best in each event and then for overall points. The teams that finished top five overall were the New Hyde Park Termites, Glenwood Greenhorns, North Bellmore Rinky Dinks, Carle Place Frogs, and the Oyster Bay Teddy’s Boys.
