IPFD PLLFD Charity Football Game [1-29-12]
- On Sunday, January 29th the Point Lookout-Lido and Island Park Fire Departments held a charity football game at Hofstra's James M. Shuart Stadium. At noon, Nassau County's only three tillers [Freeport, Elmont, and Glen Cove] began setting up a three way arch that hung over the entrance to the stadium. A short time later, those in attendance bore witness to a well sung rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. On the field during the National Anthem, were various firefighters from within the County who were apart of the Color Guard. By one o'clock, kickoff was officially underway and the teams began the game.
- Proceeds from the day's game were going directly to the Nassau County Firefighter's Museum located in Garden City. The museum is responsible for the preservation of the volunteer fire service in Nassau County and also provides education regarding fire safety and service. Donations were collected at the gate and raffles, 50/50, shirts, and snacks were sold to raise funds for the Francis X. Pendl Nassau County Firefighters Museum.
- Referees for the game consisted of various from within the County. This included Chiefs from Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Freeport, Lakeview, Hempstead, and Uniondale amongst others. Chiefs Guerin [PLL, 2500], D'Esposito [IPFD], Ruscio [IPFD] along with Bill Bennett were the men responsible behind the hard work and collaboration that went into the game.
