Irving Avenue [3-22-20]
At 15:02 hours on the afternoon of Sunday, March 22nd, 2020 the Floral Park Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire with people possibly trapped at the intersection of Whittier and Irving Avenues. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met fire showing from a two-story private dwelling located at 130 Irving Avenue. A signal ten [working fire] was transmitted and mutual aid notified. Fortunately, early on firefighters were able to confirm that everyone was out of the house and all occupants were accounted for. Multiple hand lines were put into operation to fight the fire which for a brief time turned to an exterior operation when conditions deteriorated. Despite heavy fire throughout the home firefighters were able to rescue two felines from within the home. Among the departments called for mutual aid were Elmont, New Hyde Park, and Stewart Manor. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the scene was placed under control within one hundred minutes into the alarm.
