Zinnia Street [1-30-17]

Minutes after 3:30 a.m. on the morning of Monday, January 30th, 2017 the Floral Park Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire at 57 Zinnia Street off Plainfield Avenue. Responding fire department units were advised that Floral Park Police were on scene reporting a working fire. When fire department units arrived on scene they were met with heavy fire showing from a two story private dwelling. Within the first few minutes of the operation a second alarm was transmitted due to a heavy fire load throughout the home with exposure problems. Multiple hand lines were stretched and put into operation and for a brief time firefighters turned to an exterior operation until they could gain an upper hand on the fire. Various departments were mutual aided including Elmont, New Hyde Park, Stewart Manor, Garden City Park, and Bellerose Terrace among others. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no reported injuries and all occupants made it safely out of the home.
