Barnes Street [1-29-17]
At 18:24 hours on the night of Sunday, January 29th, 2017 the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 1137 Barnes Street off Renken Boulevard. Responding fire department units were advised that the run was received as a 911 call for a fire and the caller then hung up. When fire department units arrived on scene they were met with smoke showing from a two story private dwelling. Firefighters who made their way into the home were met with a heavy smoke condition but were initially unable to locate the source of the fire. As units attempted to locate the main body of fire Franklin Square First Assistant Chief John Salzman [7101], who had command of the incident, requested a FAST to the scene. Moments later firefighters inside found that they had a basement fire and the signal ten [working fire] was then transmitted. Elmont responded to the scene with Ladder 707 as an additional truck company with Garden City being designated the FAST for the operation. Franklin Square Engine 711 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and had two hand lines stretched with at least being put into operation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
