Franklin Avenue [6-24-17]
Minutes after 1 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, June 24th, 2017 the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department was called to a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Carukin Street. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with a single vehicle accident in which an Audi coupe struck at least two stores in a one-story taxpayer on Franklin Avenue bringing down a pole and wires and trapping the third of three occupants in the car. Franklin Square firefighters and members of the Nassau County Emergency Services Unit worked to extricate the back-seat passenger from the auto. While the extrication was underway Franklin Square First Assistant Chief John Salzman requested 27E to the scene for the downed pole and wires and asked that the technical rescue team matrix be put into place. Within minutes TRTs from Freeport, Rockville Centre, and Elmont were on scene and working to shore up the areas of the building that were hardest hit. Once the building was shored up and the auto secured fire department units were released from the scene. All three occupants of the car were transported to area hospitals with what is considered non-life-threatening injuries. Fire department units were under the command of Franklin Square First Assistant Chief John Salzman [7101].
