Hempstead Turnpike [8-27-12]
While driving down Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square, an Elmont Chief was among the first to come across a motor vehicle accident in front of Wendy’s [1034 Hempstead Turnpike]. The Chief advised that there were multiple aided and a possible pin on scene and moments later the Franklin Square and Munson FD was dispatched to the scene. The accident was located between Randolph and Pacific Avenues in the westbound lanes of the turnpike. In all there were five aided between the two vehicles involved and all occupants were removed from their vehicles without the use of tools. FS&MFD Ambulances 7151 and 7152 along with Elmont Ambulance 706 and County Bus 2365 were among the ambulances that transported the aided to area hospitals. Among the injured, the most serious was a thirty-five year old male with head trauma. West Hempstead was also alerted to respond to the scene with an ambulance but was later disregarded. Firefighters on scene handled the large spill in the roadway and assisted in securing the aided and the vehicles. After the aided were transported, fire department units took up and the scene was left in the hands of Fifth Precinct officers. All fire department units were under the command of Franklin Square and Munson’s First Assistant Chief Richard Gresser Jr. [7101].
