East Merrick and Albany [1-27-12]
At 06:15 hours on the morning of January 27th, the Freeport Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of East Merrick Road and Albany Avenue for a motor vehicle accident with extrication. Engines 211 and 216, Truck Company, and Ambulance 219 were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, Engine 216 stretched a dry line as per standard operating procedures while Truck Company worked to extricate the driver of the pickup. When responding to the scene, Truck Company brought Ladder 217 and Rescue 217-2 with them. They put hydraulic tools into place to free a driver whose vehicle took a majority of the impact on the driver's side. After freeing the driver, Freeport Police and Freeport Fire Department Medics loaded the victim onto a stretcher and into awaiting County Ambulance 2387. A second vehicle, a Chevy Trailblazer, was involved in the accident; however, that driver was not injured. After Freeport Fire Department units had taken up, Freeport Police remained on scene to investigate how the accident occurred. It is believed that the wet roads were a contributing factor in causing the accident. All fire department units were under the command of Chief of Department Mark Stuparich.
