Ex-Captain Giordano Funeral [4-27-20]
On the morning of Monday, April 27th, 2020 a funeral was held for Freeport Truck Company Ex-Captain Joseph Giordano who succumbed to COVID19 on April 13th, 2020. “Joey G” joined the Freeport Fire Department in 1974 as a member of Vigilant Hose Company No. 2 where he went on to become Captain in 1979. In 1984 he transferred to Truck Company and again became a Captain – this time in 1989. Aside from achieving the rank of Captain [twice] Joe was well involved in the department and had many roles. His greatest passion was the Dead End Kids Drill Team. Aside from being a member of the fire service Joe spent his entire career as a police officer in the NYPD’s 71st precinct. Unfortunately, Joe’s wife passed away a decade ago to cancer and he now leaves behind four children. His Monday morning funeral saw a large presence from the Freeport Fire Department and New York City Police Department. Many of the police officers present were from NYPD ESU due to Joe’s brother Vinny being a high ranking Chief in the unit and also a member of Freeport Truck Company.
