Shelley Street [3-30-12]
Just after three in the morning on March 30th, the Freeport Fire Department was dispatched to a car fire on Shelley Street, with Gerald and Westend Avenues as the cross streets. FireComm advised units that multiple calls were being received for the fire. Upon arrival, 2103 confirmed the car fire and stated that it was in front of 32 Shelley Street. Engines 211 and 213 responded to the scene, with Bayview Hose Three pulling first due. With the manpower they had, Hose 3 immediately stretched their car pack and took to the fully involved BMW. Because of the make of the car, a great deal of magnesium and other chemicals were present in the manufacturing of the auto making the extinguishment process all the more difficult. Hose One pulled behind Three to replace them after their water supply began to run low. After the man body of fire was knocked down, Chief Stuparich [2100] requested that Haz Mat respond to the scene. This request came after the fuel lines burned away creating a gas leak into the street. After haz mat arrived on scene, all fire department units took up. Units were under the command of Chief of Department Stuparich.
