Morris Avenue [3-11-19]
Shortly after 22:00 hours on the night of Monday, March 11th, 2019 the Glen Cove Fire Department was called to smoke from the building on Morris Avenue. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with a heavy smoke condition in the area. Upon further investigation fire was found in a large, one story commercial building housing plumbing supplies. A signal ten [working fire] was transmitted and as time went on multiple alarms were reached bringing new rounds of mutual aid to the scene and to standby. Firefighter’s efforts were hampered by low water pressure in the area, strong winds, and combustible materials. The operation continued into the next day [March 12th] as firefighters continued to overhaul and hit spots. Dozens of departments from nearly every battalion in Nassau County were called including marine units from Bayville, Port Washington, and FDNY. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
