Sewell Street [1-13-12]
Around ten-thirty p.m. on January 13th, the Hempstead Fire Department was dispatched to the rear of 490 Peninsula Boulevard. Upon arrival, Chief 80 reported multiple cars on fire next to a building. As firefighting operations went underway, the location was confirmed as 67 Sewell Street with Peninsula Boulevard and Mirschel Street as the cross streets. The cars were in the lot of Beaver Auto Corp., a company that buys scrap metal and junk cars. The fire occurred in a pile of six cars, but primarily consumed two of them. There was no extension to the building they were stacked against. West Hempstead Ladder 765 responded to the scene and acted as the FAST team. A South Hempstead Engine and a Uniondale Ladder stoodby for Hempstead while they were on scene.
