Grove Street [12-13-17]

Hempstead firefighters operated on the scene of a working house fire in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 13th, 2017. The house, vacant at the time of the fire, was located in the sixties block of Grove Street off South Franklin Street. Hempstead Hose 2 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and had at least two hand lines put into operation. West Hempstead was designated the FAST and responded with Ladder 765. During the operation West Hempstead was put to work as an additional truck company. Uniondale Truck Company was redirected to the scene as the new FAST and was also put to work as an additional truck company. Rockville Centre went on to become the new FAST. Firefighters battled fire on both the first and second floors with extension into the attic in below freezing temperatures. The scene was placed under control within ninety minutes and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Additional mutual aid was provided by Lakeview, Baldwin, and Roosevelt. All fire department units were under the command of Hempstead Chief of Department Sandas [80].
