Willow Avenue [7-4-17]
Minutes into Tuesday, July 4th, 2017 the Hempstead Fire Department was dispatched to smoke from the roof at 160 Willow Avenue between Milburn and Kennedy Avenues. As units were responding Fire Alarm Central reported a second call from the location reporting smoke in the house. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with smoke coming from the roof of a two-story private dwelling and began stretching a line. Moments later a working fire was transmitted when firefighters found fire on the number three side of the home. West Hempstead was designated the FAST for the operation. Two lines were put into operation – one through the front door and the other to a setback in the rear. The scene was placed under control within forty minutes. All fire department units were under the command of Hempstead Chief of Department Fred Sandas [80]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
