Clinton Street [8-6-21]

At approximately 02:50 hours on the morning of Friday, August 6th, 2021, the Hempstead Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 135 Clinton Street – a seven story multiple dwelling located between Jackson Street and Fulton Avenue. Fire Alarm Central advised responding units that they were going to a report of fire in the rear of the building with multiple calls being received and people trapped. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with heavy fire showing from a second-floor apartment and accompanying balcony as well as occupants at several balconies and windows. A working fire was transmitted quickly followed by a second alarm. Once firefighters secured a water source, they were able to get hand lines into place and kept the fire primarily contained to the original fire apartment. As fire suppression was underway firefighters rescued several occupants from the building via ground ladder and tower ladder. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
