Front Street [9-26-22]
On the morning of Monday, September 26th, 2022, the Hempstead Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire on Front Street off President Street. Fire Alarm Central advised responding units that multiple calls were being received, people were possibly trapped within, and that a member on scene was reporting a working fire. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with fire showing from the number two side of a two-family, two and a half story private dwelling. A working fire was transmitted, and EMS requested for a burn victim who self-evacuated from the residence. Firefighters put two hand lines into operation and had the main body of fire quickly knocked down. The burn victim was one of two occupants transported from the scene to an area hospital. A third victim was found inside the home and unfortunately did not survive. A trio of dogs were rescued from the home and brought outside to safety. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. All fire department units were under the command of Hempstead Chief of Department Sandas [80].
