Austin Boulevard [2-23-18]

At 04:32 hours on the morning of Friday, February 23rd, 2018 the Island Park Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a gasoline tanker truck on fire at the Speedway gas station located at 4295 Austin Boulevard. When fire department units arrived on scene they were met with a confirmed gasoline tanker truck on fire at the Petro station located at 4305 Austin Boulevard. Island Park firefighters immediately went to work in containing the fire as dispatch notified the mutual aid units. Mutual aid was called from Freeport [foam unit], Long Beach, Oceanside, East Rockaway, and Point-Lookout Lido. At least two hand lines and one deck gun as well as copious amounts of foam were used to fight the fire which caught at least one of the station’s pumps and one section of the tanker which had over 6,000 gallons of fuel onboard. The cause of the fire is under investigation and there were no reported injuries. All fire department units were under the command of Island Park Chief of Department Miotto [221].
