Island Parkway West [7-28-19]
Early on the morning of Sunday, July 28th, 2019 the Island Park Fire Department was called to smoke from the house on Island Parkway West off Kent Boulevard. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met heavy smoke in the area and found fire in a two-story private dwelling on Island Parkway West. A signal ten [working fire] was trnamsitted and mutual aid notified. The fire reached a second alarm status due to fire load and for additional manpower. At least two hand lines were put into operation. There appeared to be no one home at the time of the fire and the cause of the blaze is under investigation. Among the departments called for mutual aid were Oceanside, Long Beach, Atlantic Beach Rescue, and South Hempstead. Standing by for Island Park during the operation were engines from Baldwin and Freeport along with a ladder from Rockville Centre. All fire department units were under the command of Island Park Chief of Department Mike Whalen [221].
