Mahopac Road [5-16-12]
While at the Nassau County Fire Academy for department operations, multiple calls were being received for a possible house fire in the Lakeview fire district. The location of the reported house fire was 8 Mahopac Road with Champlain Avenue as the cross street. Because Lakeview units were not in town, automatic mutual aid was put into effect. This brought a Rockville Centre Ladder and West Hempstead Engine 767 to the scene. The RVC Truck and one of their Chiefs were amongst the first on scene and confirmed the working fire. The main body of fire was contained to the three, four corner of the basement with minimal to no extension. Firefighters faced the challenge of a subdivided basement inside the large, two story plus home. Units on scene had the main body of fire knocked down within thirty minutes and then the overhaul process began.
The Lynbrook Fire Department responded to the scene as the acting FAST team and RVC set up rehab across from the home. Malverne also sent an engine to the scene and they positioned themselves on a hydrant on Ronkonkoma Avenue. Standing by during operations was an East Rockaway Ladder and an Elmont Engine. All units were under the command of Lakeview Chief Senti who was in town at the time of the fire.
