Seagirt Avenue [2-4-21]
In the early morning hours of Thursday, February 4th, 2021 the Lawrence Cedarhurst Fire Department was called to a building fire on Seagirt Avenue off Beach 2nd Street. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with heavy fire showing from a one and a half story private dwelling [which doubled as a house of worship] leading to the transmission of a signal ten [working fire]. Due to numerous phone calls reporting the fire a box was put out for FDNY units as well. When city fire units arrived on scene, they transmitted a 10-75 on their end. What all units operating discovered was that the original fire building was the last in Lawrence-Cedarhurst’s district and the home on the exposure two side was the first in FDNY’s district. When firefighters attempted an interior attack into the burning structure, they were met with a collapse of the roof which led to multiple [non-life threatening] injuries and a switch to an exterior attack via Inwood Ladder 313 and several hand lines. Among the mutual aid departments called on the volunteer side was Meadowmere Park, Inwood, Hewlett, Long Beach, and Woodmere. There was minimal [if any] extension to the exposures despite the significant amount of fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all [volunteer] fire department units were under the command of Lawrence Cedarhurst Chief of Department Thomas Foy [3200].
