Hempstead and Wantagh [4-2-12]
At 14:40 hours on April 2nd, the Levittown Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with overturn, entrapment, and multiple aided. Those factors were provided by eighth precinct officers who were already on scene of the accident which took place at the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Wantagh Avenue. Due to the severity of the injuries sustained by some victims in the accident, the police requested a forthwith response by incoming fire department units. At the same time, the County was sending multiple County Ambulances to the scene as well as Emergency Services Units. Upon arrival, first on scene units found a Ford Explorer which had rolled multiple times and had pinned passengers inside it. Also involved were a Subaru station wagon sent into a nearby gas pump, a Chevy sedan with front end damage, and a school bus with at least one student on board. Ladder 626 was the first truck on scene and the first to put the tool into place, and wasted no time in doing so. Firefighters also tended to the other aided as well as the spill coming from the Subaru wagon. Various units were on scene for the accident and worked together to free and transport the multiple aided to area hospitals. The Emergency Services Units on scene were 2422 and 2423. Levittown also had Heavy Rescue 624 and Special Operations Unit 6225 on scene to assist. The Wantagh Fire Department also sent a bus to the scene.
