Maryland Avenue [12-5-12]
At 21:45 hours on the night of December 5th, the Long Beach Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Maryland Avenue in the vicinity of Reynolds Channel. Upon arrival, the first units on scene were met with a heavy fire load throughout the first and second floors of 100 Maryland Avenue. Fire was also exposing itself through the roof of the home and extending to a neighboring home. Extension of the fire was made by possible by a strong wind coming in off of the bay.
Multiple hand lines were immediately stretched and committed to both fire buildings. At least four lines were stretched with three of them being put into operation. Long Beach Ladder 2372 took to the roof of 100 Maryland Avenue while Lawrence-Cedarhurst Ladder 325 took to the roof of the neighboring home. Island Park was designated as the FAST team while Oceanside responded to the scene with Ladder 244. Baldwin and Point Lookout-Lido were also part of the mutual aid plan. Within thirty minutes the main body of fire was knocked down and by fifty minutes into the operation the scene was placed under control [a signal twelve transmitted]. All fire departments units were under the command of Long Beach Chief of Department Richard Corbett [231].
