Merrick Road [10-6-15]
On the night of Tuesday, October 6th, 2015 the Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a building fire at the intersection of Merrick Road and Hempstead Avenue. Responding units were advised that multiple calls were being received reporting that the fire and that it was at Universal Music Instrument. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with heavy smoke pushing from 274 Merrick Road - a one story building located next to the iconic music store. This prompted Lynbrook Chief McDermott to transmit a signal ten [working fire]. East Rockaway was notified for the FAST and an ambulance to the scene along with Rockville Centre who sent an engine and ladder to the scene.
Firefighters had at least three lines stretched with two in operation to fight the fire which was in the ceiling and roof areas. After approximately thirty minutes all fire was located and knocked down. The cause of the fire was under investigation and Lynbrook command requested an immediate response from the fire marshal’s office. Units from Malverne and Lakeview stood by for Lynbrook during the operation. All fire department units were under the command of Lynbrook Chief of Department James McDermott [429].
