Merrick Road [8-23-11]
In the early morning hours of August 23rd, the Lynbrook Fire Department was dispatched to a building fire at 224A Merrick Road between Vincent and Denton Avenues. Upon arrival, first due units were met with the realization that the fire was based in a well-known Lynbrook establishment - Lynbrook Bicycles [an asset to the community for over twenty-four years]. The shop was set in a single story taxpayer with stores surrounding it on both sides. Lynbrook Engine 424 pulled first due and immediately began stretching lines while first due Truck 427 took the front of the building and began their operations. Lynbrook 428 put their rig into position at the northwest corner of the building, while Rockville Centre Ladder 449 setup in the northeast corner of the building and was the FAST team on scene. Also on scene was Lynbrook's Tally Ho Engine 423 and Floodlight Truck 426. After several handlines were put into place a rather quick knockdown was made; however, much of the taxpayer strip was lost to fire, water, and/or smoke damage.
