Shipherd Avenue [2-21-21]
In the early morning hours of Sunday, February 21st, 2021 the Lynbrook Fire Department was called to a house fire on Shipherd Avenue off Denton Avenue. When units arrived on scene, they were met with smoke showing and went on to found fire in the basement of a two-story private dwelling leading to the transmission of a signal ten [working fire]. Occupants that had already self-evacuated told firefighters that there may be someone still in the basement. That report proved true when Lynbrook firefighters located and removed a victim. Once the victim was extricated from the residence they were placed in the care of medical personnel on scene. The victim was transported to Mt. Sinai South Nassau and later transferred the burn center at NUMC. The fire was quickly knocked down and contained to the basement using one hand line off Lynbrook Engine 421. A second hand line was stretched and stood by. Among the departments called for mutual aid was Rockville Centre, East Rockaway, and Valley Stream. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no update has been given on the condition on the occupant saved from the home. All fire department units were under the command of Lynbrook Chief of Department Michael Brooks [429].
