Dogwood Avenue [2-17-16]
At approximately 20:00 hours on the night of Wednesday, February 17th, 2016 the Malverne Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire in the vicinity of the Grace Lutheran Church on Hempstead Avenue. When the first Malverne Chief arrived on scene he was met with smoke and embers in the area. The Chief traced the smoke and embers to a house that was setback and on fire on Dogwood Avenue [the address was later corrected to 5 Dogwood Avenue]. A signal ten [working fire] was transmitted and Franklin Square was notified for the FAST. Also called to the scene was a ladder from Lynbrook and Valley Stream, an engine from Lakeview, and an ambulance from Franklin Square. Firefighters were able to make a quick knockdown of the fire using two lines off of first due Malverne Engine 431. The main body fire was located on the exterior part of the home on the number four side. The home had been recently undergoing construction and the cause of the fire was under investigation. Rockville Centre Ladder 449 and Lynbrook Engine 422 stood by for Malverne during the operation.
